The will of the people — Marsha McCray

Editor,

Our group, the Tracy Concerned Citizens for an Aquatic Center, sent to the community another informational mailer detailing the efforts of community members like me, who have been working on bringing an aquatic park to Tracy since 2005. Others have been involved for even longer.

The purpose of the mailer is to remind people of the ongoing effort to bring this much wanted amenity to Tracy. It’s one of the major reasons why voters supported Measure V, and why so many of us in our group campaigned for it. Measure V is intended to fund public amenities.

We know that there are many families in Tracy who support the Community Design Plans for the Aquatic Center; however, we also know that many of those same families are tired and frustrated of being promised this amenity by the city and then it never coming to fruition.

Even now, Councilmembers Eleassia Davis, Dan Evans, and Matteo Bedolla are roadblocking the Aquatic Center for their own personal and political agendas. Ironically, these are the same councilmembers who claim to be representatives of “the people.” What they mean to say is “their people.” They are not concerned at all with the will of the majority.

Last summer, our group began collecting signatures from residents in support of the Aquatic Center and in support of the Community Design Plans for the project. We’ve collected nearly 3,000 signatures. This shows that despite 20-years of disappointment people still want this amenity.

The city has the Community Design Plans for the Aquatic Center available to them and they have the land. It now just needs three votes to move forward. If this council can’t do it, then we need one who can.
